RE: if your running

That is awesome of you! Not only is it generous of you to offer shelter to a fellow American, but to fellow campers. This proves that campers are nice people! I wrote in a previous blog (here) that it would be nice to have a network of fellow campers that could offer traveling campers a place to stay for the night or for a vacation. Now, I see this as a valuable option for emergency camping as well! I too would entertain the idea of hosting traveling campers! Happy Camping!

RE: Keystone vs Forest River

We have a Forest River Rockwood 8314ss and we love it! We almost went with the 8315 with the front kitchen but decided we wanted the rear lounge. The quality of the Rockwood is the best that I have seen amongst TT's that we have looked at since getting our Rockwood. Good luck and happy camping!

RE: slide outs

Our Rockwood 8314ss has a large slide and it's been opn in our drive for a couple weeks. This weekend (yesterday and today), we have received 6 inches of heavy rain and no leaks at all! When we went to Door County Wisconsin this past June, there was a huge downpour and we had no leakage at all. Now, we do have the slide covers and that might help too, but no water ever.

RE: Where is everyone going Columbus Day weekend?

I have a sick step-dad and will be going to Kentucky to stay with my mom while he is in surgery and after he gets home. I will probably be there for three to four weeks and will most likely be there during the Columbus Say Weekend. Although I will be telecommuting for my day job and will be working for my parents for whatever they need, I am excited about this 'dry run' at full timing. This will be the longest amount of time that I will stay in the TT.

RE: 911

I was at work. We had just buried our boss the Friday before after he died of a heart attack. I remember driving to work that day and thinking that I would work my butt off and move forward for him. Then people started coming by, talking about the first plane that hit the first tower. Things seemed to spiral out of control from that point forward....another plane in the other tower...a plane just crashed into the Pentagon and a plane crashed or was shot down in Pennsylvania. It was all surreal.....we were all watching live ABC Internet feeds. When I drove home, I watched the skies since all the planes were grounded and I saw what I think was an AWAC plane being escorted by two fighters. I remember us all just wanting to be home with our families. God bless all and never forget!

RE: RV Loans

I talked to a RV dealership near Dallas and he said he bas bidding on a REPO on Monday. He said that might work for us and they would be willing to help finance it. I did not think of the REPO ideas. It is a gamble but it might go through he said. He also mentioned he sold them on consignment and there was a lady trying to get rid of her's that would carry the note. Thanks for all the advice, I really appreciate it. Excellent news! Good luck and hope to see ya around! Be sure to post pics when you find your new (to you) TT! Happy camping!

RE: Freak accident

WOW! Thank god grandma and the kids were not in that wreck! That would have been very sad. That jerk will probably sue someone and that is another sad state of things. Thanks for posting those pictures!

RE: RV Loans

The down payment is one important piece. You should be prepared to put at least 10% down on any purchase you are planning on making, but some require a 20% deposit. If you have, lets say, 20% and they still won't finance you, then they are probably figuring your credit rating and the amount of debt you have. Banks have a formula for figuring debt ratio and even with the best credit, if one owes up to their debt ratio, banks don't like to give loans. It's even more so these days after the mortgage crisis and the current bank problems. Banks are just going to be more tight with the money and more pick who and what they loan for. Do you have a mortgage? Do you have equity that you could get a loan against (second mortgage)? That might be an option for you as well. Good luck and happy camping!

RE: Buying a new travel trailer

That depends. It sounds like you are buying a seasonal. From what I have read in the 'rags', seasonal type trailers and large RV's are still a 'dealers market' since the people that tend to buy those will continue to do so even as the economy tanks. Plus, many people are going seasonal to avoid traveling and burning gas. The 'Buyers market' seems to be in the travel trailer arena (all flavors...pop-ups, hybrids and TT's, etc) and possibly in the lower priced 5ers since there is a huge selection out there. Depending on what you want for a seasonal, you might be better off (financially) with 30 - 35 foot Travel Trailer that you can park on a site. Then...later if you want to take it camping, it wouldn't be that much of a big deal providing you have the TV to pull it. Shop around and negotiate. Good luck and happy camping!

35' to 40' TT's?

My TT is a Rockwood 8314SS and it is 33' long. I have seen some really nice 35-40' long TT's. Do people really drag these around or do most people use them as seasonal units? Thanks

RE: Power Awning Pictures

Our Rockwood came with a Dometic electric awning and I hate it! Same problem as others....with water pooling. When I had my Four Winds with the manula awning, I could adjust the one side downa bit to allow the water to drain off. When it rains with this new one, I have to roll it up.....a big waste! I wouldn't mind replacing it with one that can handle the water....I would even do a manual one!

RE: Bummer - Lake Delton Wisconsin

Just some quick facts from a local yoco... It was a land bridge that washed out, not the dam. The dam is in perfect shape, which is why refilling the lake will go much quicker. The draining of the lake - which in most places is 8 to 10 feet deep doesn't effect that much of the Dells/Lake Delton businesses. In fact the lake had NO EFFECT on 93% of the businesses in the area. So contrary to reports THE DELLS ARE NOT CLOSED FOR THE SEASON!!! In fact the Tommy Bartlett Stage and Sky show will resume business tomorrow at 4:30 pm. At this stage the Governor will do everything in his power to get the land bridge patched, the lake filled, and business as usual on Lake Delton ASAP - I'd venture most back to normal by mid July. Thanks for the update Car Guy. I also saw that the Tommy Bartlett show is bringing back some of their past talent like Wes Harrison (Mr. Sound Effects). That is great news and I might try to make a trip there to support our Northern Neighbors.

Bummer - Lake Delton Wisconsin

For those of you that frequent the Wisconsin Dells and are planning on watching the Tommy Bartlett show, you will need to make other arrangements. During the 10+ inches of rain this past weekend, a man-made dam burst and drained the lake. It is a real shame because the Tommy Bartlett show and Lake Delton has been a major vacation stop in the Dells area for many years. here's a link to photos: Tommy Bartlett Show Bleachers

RE: Staying hooked up

I have done this with no problems. Also, I put the tongue jack down, but not to relieve the pressure on the TV but to help stabilize the TT.

RE: dehumidifier use in travel trailer

When we had our 23' TT, we noticed that the air was very moist. This was because the AC unit for the small space was too large and it actually caused more humidity. Our new 33' Rockwood seems to be de-humidified much more efficiently than in the smaller TT and both have the same size AC unit. I don't know the science of cooling but there is something about the smaller space....With all that siad....I don't see why you couldn't use a dehumidifier in a TT.

RE: how many of you have generators?

Oh...forgot to detail how I was able to justify having a generator. I justify it because I wanted it! I have never used it in a campground (yet) but I have used it in various rest areas during lunch breaks on long drives and used it once to take my kid and his friends to an amusement park where DW and I didn't want to go in so we ran it all day and stayed in the TT with the comfy AC and watched movies.
